As you get excited and feel comfortable in your panoramic seats, you are about to embark on your 4 hour journey through some remarkable breathtaking views you will experience. Order some drinks, relax and enjoy this epic train journey with your lover, friends or family.
Upon arrival you will receive their brochure, earphones and you can download Audio App Guide and see the whole route online and hear the history of the surrounding area. Free wifi is available onboard.
For the best views sit on the right hand side when going south and left when going north.
In the first class you will be seated in a panoramic window view, in between the trains you could enter a small size cabin to put the window down and smell the mountain air, feel the cold in your skin while the train is on full throttle. Be careful doing this and make sure your hands and head don’t hit anything.
The landscape varies greatly, from winter wonderland scenery on the Bernina Pass to Mediterranean scenery in the Poschiavo valley and Tirano.
The Albula/Bernina railway line forms the heart of the Unesco World Cultural Heritage listing and is regarded as one of the world's most spectacular routes. The UNESCO route itself covers 122 kilometres from Thusis to Tirano, passing 196 bridges, 55 tunnels and 20 towns along the way.
Here are some of the stunning highlights!
- Landwasser Viaduct
- Alp Grum
- Ospizio Bernina
- Brusio Circular Viaduct
- Valposchiavo
LANDWASSER VIADUCT
As you pass this fantastic piece of construction, a viaduct beautifully set in the landscape. A wonderful engineering design that blends absolutely stunning in a scenic environment.
OSPIZIO BERNINA
Where the sky and lake mirror each other. A remote train station with spectacular view overlooking the lake. During warmer months Lago Bianco will hypnotise you with it's emerald charms.
BRUSIO CIRCULAR VIADUCT
VALPOSCHIAVO
One of the many sights along the Bernina Express line is the Brusio Circular Viaduct. A well blend of great engineer, architecture, natural beauty, landscape and history.
As we love to travel by train this experience capturing it with windows down was fascinating as it turned 360 degrees.
Val Poschiavo is a valley in the southern, Italian-speaking part of the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The main town is Poschiavo.
When this beautiful valley comes into view from the red train it is truly breathtaking. The railway line climbs continuously to Tirano, our last stop our of our train journey.
