Those who want to experience even more Italian flavour can continue their panoramic journey from Tirano on the red Bernina Express Bus. Passing the expansive vineyards of the Valtellina, going through picturesque villages and along Lake Como, the journey takes you to Lugano and from there at high speed through the Gotthard Base Tunnel back to German-speaking Switzerland.

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO CONTINUE TO LAKE COMO
As we hopped off Tirano station we had only 15 minutes to jump to our next train heading to Lake Como to stay in a quite and beautiful tiny house with stunning views of the mountains witnessing one of the best sunrise/sunsets in this region. We explored Argegno, Varenna and Bellagio for 4 days afterwards one night in Milan before returning to Amsterdam.

When visiting Lake Como make sure to come off season to avoid the tourist crowd. We certainly were lucky to have come after the Bernina Express and experience these places feeling relaxed and discover the lake and mountains peacefully.
VARENNA
The town of Varenna is a fishing village that dates back to the eleventh century, and is a jewel amongst the towns of Lake Como. Spend some time strolling through the town’s characteristic alleyways and take in breathtaking views from the picturesque waterfront.Varenna is the perfect destination for people looking to experience a romantic and relaxing getaway full of natural beauty and charm.

At the crux of Lake Como’s inverted “Y” sits the town of Bellagio, known as “the pearl of Lake Como”. Its unique location, picturesque villas, gardens, and cobbled stairways make it a remarkable place to visit and explore and has earned the town its reputation as being one of the most beautiful towns in Europe.
While here, you can explore the incredible Villa Serbelloni Gardens on a guided tour, visit the Lombard-Romanesque San Giacomo Church, take a plein air painting class, or simply relax and take in the remarkable scenery.
