Every day — commute, city, gym

The Charlie (9L) is compact on purpose: a 14″ laptop, lunch and a book, with nothing rattling around. The Hunter (13L) is the in-between size for slightly fuller days. If you carry a 16″ laptop, or want one bag that also does the weekend, take the Alex or Toby (both 20L). Prefer something in your hand rather than on your back? The William Work Bag has the briefcase silhouette.

A weekend away — 1 to 2 nights

The Toby (20L) is our bestseller: it opens from the back and packs like a small suitcase, and at 20 litres it flies free as your under-seat personal item on EasyJet and Ryanair. The Alex is the same size with leather details instead of the vegan metal-buckle look. For hand-carry, the Mikko Overnight (26L) duffel has a shoe compartment that zips away when you don’t need it — it travels as regular cabin luggage in the overhead bin.

A real trip — 3 to 5 nights

The Marco (31L) opens flat like a suitcase and is a dream with packing cubes. It is overhead-bin cabin luggage, not an under-seat personal item. Honest answer if you are flying strictly under-seat: 20 litres is the ceiling, so the Toby plus packing cubes can stretch to three nights if you pack light — otherwise the Marco needs the bin. For a light hand-carry of similar capacity, the Francis Foldable Overnight Bag folds flat when it is not travelling.

A week or more — one-bag travel

The Karl (44L) is the maximum most airlines allow as cabin luggage in the overhead bin, and it opens flat like a suitcase. A week as an under-seat personal item is not realistic — the Marco is the smallest genuinely workable option there. A trick our regular travellers use: fold a Bob inside the Karl and you have a day bag waiting at your destination.

A spare bag that lives in your luggage

The Bob (16L) and the smaller Bobby (12L) fold into their own pouch and unfold into a real backpack on location; the pouch then becomes a travel pouch for cables. Honest note: the back panel is not padded — that is what makes them foldable — so for heavy daily loads choose a padded pack instead.

Something small — day bag, crossbody, sling

The Kim Day Bag for phone, wallet and a little more; the Lea Sling as the throw-everything-in-and-go bag with a swappable rope strap; the Jaya (3L) as the compact crossbody.

Which bags fit under the airplane seat?

All our backpacks are sized to go under the seat in front of you as the free personal item — except the Marco (31L) and Karl (44L), which are regular cabin luggage for the overhead bin. The Mikko duffel is officially overhead-bin size too. On full-service airlines you are typically allowed both — one cabin bag in the bin and one personal item under the seat.
