FAJÃ DOS PADRES
An organic farm at the bottom of a 250m cliff and you can only access it via cable car. If you are looking for a hidden gem, you have found it. Fajã Dos Padres is a little paradise. The bungalows are comfortable and have amazing views over the ocean.
HOW TO GET THERE?
Fajã Dos Padres is about 30 min drive from the Madeira airport. You park your car at the top of the cliff and take the cable car down to the beach. If you don't want to stay over night, you can also visit Fajã Dos Padres for the day. The café serves a really good lunch and the water is great for swimming. Check their website here.
THINGS TO KNOW
HOW MANY BUNGALOWS DO THEY HAVE?
They currently have 2 bigger houses and 6 smaller bungalows. We stayed in one of the bungalows (Tia Maria) which was great for 2 people. The bungalows have a small kitchen and a private patio with view on the ocean.
CAN I COME AND LEAVE WHEN I WANT?
Yes and No. During the day (9:00am - 6:00pm) the cable car goes every few minutes. Before or after those operating hours you need to plan & reserve with the staff. The 6:00pm deadline was a little challenging. Especially on days when we did the longer hikes. It also forces you to have dinner in your bungalow and not for example in a restaurant in Funchal city. This is the only drawback about staying here and the reason why we stayed here "only" 4 nights and not the full 7 days.
DO THEY HAVE A RESTAURANT?
Yes, the restaurant is great for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast you can choose between eating at the restaurant or having it delivered to oyur bungalow. Unfortunately the restaurant also closes at 6:00pm. You can arrange special dinner with the staff.
