WHERE TO STAY?
While Cape Town officially spreads out quiet a bit, the actual part you use as a tourist is pretty small. If you visit Cape Town for the first time, we would recommend to either stay in Camps Bay for the beach feeling (can be pretty windy) or our favorite location is close to the city's coolest street called Kloof Street. (with lots of cute cafés and restaurants)

THINGS TO DO
CLIMB TABLE MOUNTAIN
Table Mountain is the heart of the city and no visit to Cape Town is complete without getting on top of this amazing mountain. Our favourite hike is the Skeleton Gorge route via the Kirstenbosch botanical garden. It's a scenic hike with beautiful flora and fauna, and it's less crowded than Platteklip Gorge. More info here
CHAPMANS PEAK DRIVE
Chapman's Peak Drive is a renowned coastal road offering spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, Hout Bay, and the surrounding mountains. It's a popular route for a scenic drive, and there are several viewpoints where you can pull over and take in the panoramic vistas. The road is well-maintained and offers numerous photo opportunities along the way.
OLD BISCUIT MILL
Saturdays are the busiest and most popular days to visit the Old Biscuit Mill, as this is when the main market takes place. The market is open from morning till late afternoon and features a wide array of stalls selling local produce, crafts, fashion, and more. There are also live music performances, food vendors, and a lively atmosphere.

THINGS TO KNOW
SAFETY
We never had any problems in Cape Town, but like any other city, it's important to take standard safety precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, avoid displaying expensive jewelry or belongings, use reputable transportation, and be cautious in unfamiliar or poorly lit areas, especially at night.
GETTING AROUND
We normally hire a car at the airport. But if driving on the left side is a bit too adventures for you, you can easily do most things in the city by Uber/ taxi. They are very affordable and the drivers are great. Many of the drivers are not local and come from other African countries. Especially Zimbabwe. If you make the effort to talk to them you will discover some amazing life storeis. Give it a try : )
TOWNSHIPS
Different to poor areas in other countries (i.e. Favelas in Brazil), townships did not originate from pure poverty but from the apartheid system. The population was divided into black, coloured and white and each group had to live by law in it's delegated area. So it did not matter if you were a richer or pooper black person, you had to live in the township.
Today everybody can live where they want, but some better off and well educated people who grew up in the townships might decided to stay there since they feel it is their neighborhood and the place where their friends & family are. This means that todays townships (while still with many more problems than the traditional white areas) are changing and hosting a well educated middle class.
We highly recommend to visit the townships. We promise it won't be "looking at poverty zoo tour". You will meet so many energetic, creative and lovely people that you will return inpired and filled with love.
